Cartier Equals Commitment

July 5 2014

5In January 2013, Kylie Jenner caused a sensation on Instagram by posting a picture of a ring she received from a boyfriend. The news of her possible romance held little weight until the audience realized she wore a Cartier Love Ring. Suddenly, the rumors of a serious relationship proved noteworthy.

Cartier’s name, which is synonymous with love, started down the road to romance in 1969 when Aldo Cipullo designed the Love Bracelet. Based on his study of history, Cipullo captured the symbol of “Love” by adding a horizontal line inside the letter “O”. His intentions were to create a design that resembled a medieval chastity belt, which warriors placed around the waist of their wives to preserve the fidelity of their marriage while they were gone. Thus, to Cipullo, the design of the Love Bracelet mirrored the belt and its portrayal of a "locked up" or committed relationship.

In order to retain the profound meaning of the jewelry, cartier would not let individuals buy Love Bracelets for themselves.

Nevertheless, stemming from the bracelet’s popularity, the Love Ring is now a trendy design for most wedding bands. The masculine screw-motif allows for a unisex style that is appealing to both men and women. To add to its beauty, the ring is available with colored stones, and diamonds. In addition, the rings come in four precious metals: pink-gold, platinum, white, and yellow gold. The most popular being the pink-gold, which some say is an emblem of ultimate respect. Nonetheless, the rings have expanded their audience. Now anyone can buy the jewelry for any occasion as seen by patrons celebrating life’s milestones by purchasing Love Rings.
